Super Eagles Have Not Received Match Bonus Since AFCON Game Against South Africa

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have not received any match bonus from the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, since their quarter final 2-1 triumph over South Africa at the 2019 African Nations Cup game against South Africa in Egypt.

The three time African champions have since then played seven matches; the 3rd placed game against Tunisia at the 2019 AFCON, 2021 AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho, international friendly matches with Algeria and Tunisia as well as AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone (home and away).

According to TheCable, a source close the team said that the Super Eagles are being owed match bonus since their third-place match against Tunisia at the 2019 African Nations Cup which Nigeria won to claim the bronze medal.

“Don’t blame the players if they show some level of complacency on the pitch of play because NFF promise and fail the team,” the source told TheCable.

The source continues, “Do you believe that the boys are still being owed since their third-place match against Tunisia in Egypt? Tuesday’s match against Sierra Leone in Freetwon is the seventh match they have played since they’re been owed.

“Can you imagine a situation where the leadership of the NFF will come to the team’s hotel to show them “Ghana Must Go’ bag that is filled with money, that all they need to do is to win the match? But when they might have delivered, stories will start. And they will be told that they have their account details, that the money will be transfered into it.

“The thing is that the team don’t really believe the federation even when they promise with heaven and earth because they have come to realize that everything is just stories.” The source concluded.

The Super Eagles have failed to secure a win in their four consecutive games. They lost a four-goal lead over Sierra Leone at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Friday 13th, November,2020 and managed a 0-0 draw on Tuesday in the 2021 group L 2021 African Nations Cup qualifier in Freetown.
