NSM/Walin Kakuri Cup: Kakuri Old Stars square up against Stock City today as Zifa FC defeats Congo FC

The fifth qualifier for the quarter-final of the NSM/Walin Kakuri Cup will emerge later today when Kakuri Old Stars FC lock horns with Stock City FC at the Government Day Secondary School Kakuri, Kaduna state this evening.


Zebra FC, Kakuri United, FC Porto and Zifa FC who defeated Congo FC 3-2 on Tuesday evening are the teams through to the quarter-final of the annual football competition aimed at fostering peace, friendship, and unity among the good people of Kakuri.


ZIFA FC produced a magnificent second-half comeback to eliminate wasteful Congo FC from the competition after they went 2-0 behind in the first half that belonged to Congo FC.


Mubarak Said shot Congo FC ahead in the 12th minute before Kabir Suleiman doubled the advantage in the 23rd minute to make it 2-0. Jacob Ibrahim reduced the deficit for Zifa FC in the 57th minute while Idris Isa equalised in the 78th minute. Gabriel Solomon completed the greatest comeback with the third goal for Zifa FC in the 82nd minute to shoot them to the quarter-final.


The competition is solely sponsored by the Walin Kakuri, Sani Abdullahi but the owner of Bet9ja, Kunle Soname, Business mogul, Bukola Olopade, 36 Lion President, Hajj Liameed Gafar, and a few others have identified with the competition this year.


Seven teams will book their spots in the quarter-final at the end of the first-round matches with the best loser filling the eighth spot to set the tone for the last eight matches scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 24th.


The competition is due to end on Thursday, May 13th, 2021 with the grand finale.

Sports Journalists In Aba Honor Finidi George in Post-Afcon Reception.

Members of the Aba Sports Journalists Forum(ASJ)  came out in their numbers to a dinner, to welcome and honour Ex-international and  Super Eagles assistant coach, Finidi George after the exploits of the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoir. The dinner which was hosted by Finidi George, who is also Enyimba's coach had journalists from different media outlets asking Finidi questions about his AFCON experiences, the Super Eagles, Enyimba and his time as a player and other questions on his experience as coach of the current NPFL Champions.  It was a moment to relax, learn and hear from the legend who has won the AFCON Gold, Silver and Bronze medal as player and coach.  The former Ajax winger would be in charge of his first game at Enyimba since returning from the AFCON when Enyimba host Gombe United on Thursday afternoon.

CAF Disciplinary Committee Awards Three Points and Three Goals to Super Eagles*

In a significant development, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Committee has awarded three points and three goals to Nigeria's Super Eagles following a disputed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Libya. According to a letter signed by Ousmane Kane, Chairperson of the CAF Disciplinary Board, Libya breached Article 31 of the AFCON regulations and Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF disciplinary code. Consequently, Libya has been fined $50,000, payable within 60 days. This ruling propels the Super Eagles to the top of their qualifying group with 10 points from four matches, a comfortable four-point lead over second-placed Benin. A draw against Benin in Abidjan next month will secure the Super Eagles' spot at the 2025 AFCON, scheduled to take place in Morocco in December 2025.
