Robert Lewandowski wins the FIFA Best Player Award

Bayern Munich's Polish Striker Robert Lewandowski won the best men's player at the Best Fifa Football Awards in Zurich, beating last year's winner Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to the top prize.

The Polish International scored 55 goals in just 47 games last season as he helped German giants Bayern Munich to a treble.

Lewandowski, 32, finished as the top scorer in the German Bundesliga, the DFB Pokal and Uefa  Champions League.

The winners were decided by nominations from national team captains and head coaches, an online ballot of fans and 200 media representatives.

This is the first time Lewandowski has won the award, with Barcelona forward Messi or Juventus' Ronaldo usually triumphing.

This season, Lewandowski has picked up from where he stooped with 16 goals in 14 games for Bayern.

"If you win such an award and share that title with Messi and Ronaldo, that is unbelievable and it means so much to me," Lewandowski said.

"A long time ago, I remember I was longing for and dreaming of something like this and now I can win such an award. This really means, regardless of where you come form, all that matters is what you put into it."

Members of the Aba Sports Journalists Forum(ASJ)  came out in their numbers to a dinner, to welcome and honour Ex-international and  Super Eagles assistant coach, Finidi George after the exploits of the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoir. The dinner which was hosted by Finidi George, who is also Enyimba's coach had journalists from different media outlets asking Finidi questions about his AFCON experiences, the Super Eagles, Enyimba and his time as a player and other questions on his experience as coach of the current NPFL Champions.  It was a moment to relax, learn and hear from the legend who has won the AFCON Gold, Silver and Bronze medal as player and coach.  The former Ajax winger would be in charge of his first game at Enyimba since returning from the AFCON when Enyimba host Gombe United on Thursday afternoon.

Lagos State FA Chairman Congratulates Manu Garba On His Appointment As Golden Eaglets Coach

  Lagos State Football Association Chairman, Hajji Liameed Olawale Gafar, has congratulated Manu Garba, on his appointment as the new head coach of the Nigeria U17 national football team, the Golden Eaglets.  Manu Garba's first tenure as Eaglets Manager saw him handling footballers such as Taiwo Awoniyi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac  Success, Francis Uzoho, Chidiebere Nwakali and Musa Muhammed to victory at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup.   According to Hajji Gafar, he believes that this experience makes Manu Garba the ideal candidate to lead the Golden Eaglets to new heights. The coach who returns for his third stint with the team has been saddled with the responsibility of leading the current crop of players to next month's WAFU B U17 Championship which serves as qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.
