National Sports Festival: Team Rivers Undergo Covid-19 Test


Ahead of the 20th National Sports Festival billed for Edo State between April 4 and 15 2021, the Rivers state contingent on Tuesday had a general Covid-19 test.

Led by the Chairman and participation planning committe, Honour Sirawoo, the Athletes, officials and state government delegation were all tested.

It's in line with the directive of the Federal ministry of youth and sports that everyone who intends to be at the National sports festival in any capacity must return a negative Covid-19 test and get vaccinated.
Once the results return, the next for team Rivers is a trip to the host city, Benin City, Edo State where the multi sports event will hold between April 4 and 15.

Team Rivers is hoping to dazzle to the top of the overall medals table as the state government under the leadership of Governor Nyesom Wike has assured the travelling athletes of juicy rewards if they record a decent outing.
Rivers state who hosted the National Sports Festival in 1988 and 2011 will be in Edo State with 435 athletes and 144 officials to compete for honours in 29 sporting events

Sports Journalists In Aba Honor Finidi George in Post-Afcon Reception.

Members of the Aba Sports Journalists Forum(ASJ)  came out in their numbers to a dinner, to welcome and honour Ex-international and  Super Eagles assistant coach, Finidi George after the exploits of the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoir. The dinner which was hosted by Finidi George, who is also Enyimba's coach had journalists from different media outlets asking Finidi questions about his AFCON experiences, the Super Eagles, Enyimba and his time as a player and other questions on his experience as coach of the current NPFL Champions.  It was a moment to relax, learn and hear from the legend who has won the AFCON Gold, Silver and Bronze medal as player and coach.  The former Ajax winger would be in charge of his first game at Enyimba since returning from the AFCON when Enyimba host Gombe United on Thursday afternoon.

Lagos State FA Chairman Congratulates Manu Garba On His Appointment As Golden Eaglets Coach

  Lagos State Football Association Chairman, Hajji Liameed Olawale Gafar, has congratulated Manu Garba, on his appointment as the new head coach of the Nigeria U17 national football team, the Golden Eaglets.  Manu Garba's first tenure as Eaglets Manager saw him handling footballers such as Taiwo Awoniyi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac  Success, Francis Uzoho, Chidiebere Nwakali and Musa Muhammed to victory at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup.   According to Hajji Gafar, he believes that this experience makes Manu Garba the ideal candidate to lead the Golden Eaglets to new heights. The coach who returns for his third stint with the team has been saddled with the responsibility of leading the current crop of players to next month's WAFU B U17 Championship which serves as qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.
