National Sports Festival: Team Rivers Undergo Covid-19 Test

Ahead of the 20th National Sports Festival billed for Edo State between April 4 and 15 2021, the Rivers state contingent on Tuesday had a general Covid-19 test. Led by the Chairman and participation planning committe, Honour Sirawoo, the Athletes, officials and state government delegation were all tested. It's in line with the directive of the Federal ministry of youth and sports that everyone who intends to be at the National sports festival in any capacity must return a negative Covid-19 test and get vaccinated. Once the results return, the next for team Rivers is a trip to the host city, Benin City, Edo State where the multi sports event will hold between April 4 and 15. Team Rivers is hoping to dazzle to the top of the overall medals table as the state government under the leadership of Governor Nyesom Wike has assured the travelling athletes of juicy rewards if they record a decent outing. National Sports Festival: Team Rivers Athletes Receive Covid-19 Vaccine

The Rivers state Athletes to the forthcoming National Sports Festival today got vaccinated as they intensify preparations for the festival. The development is in tandem with the directive of the Honourable Sports Minister, Mr. Sunday Dare that athletes and officials that will be part of the multi sports event must get vaccinated. The Covid-19 Vaccine boosts the immune system and to a large extent prevent the novel virus from penetrating. The 2021 National Sports Festival is scheduled to hold in Benin City, Edo State between April 2nd and 15th, it was shifted two times because of the pandemic which also halted other Sporting events globally. Water FC duo of Oladoye and Chinonso Sign For Belgian Giants Gent

KAA Gent of Belgium have acquired the services of Flying Eagles star striker Emeka Chinonso and defensive midfielder Adewale Oladoye after they impressed in some friendly games with the first team The duo who will clock 20 years by August and September respectively have resumed training with the club’s first team. Chinonso is a powerfully built centre-forward and made the final squad to the 2019 U20 World Cup in Poland. Adewale is a tall, tough-tackling defensive midfielder who featured for the most recent Flying Eagles at the U20 AFCON qualifiers in Benin Republic last year. Chinonso and Oladoye's are the latest  Nigeria players who have represented the capital club including Augustine Eguavoen who captained the side at some point, also Moses Simon and Kalu Uche have also played for the Belgian Giants. 

Lagos SWAN Election: Edoreh, Oyeleke, Oshundun endorse Tobe-Chukwu

The campaign team of Oluchi Tobe-Chukwu got a major boost at the weekend as two former chairmen of the Lagos state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Fred Edoreh, and Niyi Oyeleke together with the incumbent chairman, Debo Oshundun, endorsed the candidature of the versatile broadcaster in her quest to become the Vice Chairman of the noble association.  The Lagos SWAN elections will hold on Friday, March 26, 2021 and the positions to be contested include; Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary and the Internal Auditor. Seun Precious is an exceptional striker who laces his boot  for Dynamics Football Academy, has disclosed his dream of becoming a player for Manchester United in the near future. Speaking to some Newsmen in an online interview he said he has always liked playing the beautiful game of football, though his family were never in support of him because they wanted him to face his studies and become a doctor but due to his passion for the game he decided to stick with the game. Global football supportership started since the first football match was played in England, the much acclaimed home of football.  From the very beginning, football fans have traveled far and wide with their national teams to offer physical support. They celebrate in victory and cry in defeat.  The Nigeria Football Supporters Club was founded in 1956 by football-loving Nigerians drawn from different walks of life ostensibly to support the Green Eagles as the Super Eagles were then known. Sports Minister inspects Liberty Stadium

Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, visited the liberty stadium, Ibadan, on Saturday 6th March, 2021, in continuation of his tour of sporting facilities and visit to team Nigeria athletes, preparing for the Olympic games.  On a visit to the Sports hostel, the Minister promised that all illegal structures in the building will be taken off while also revealing that same thing is being done in Lagos and Abuja to return the stadia to better shape.  He used the occasion to appeal to private investors around the country to take advantage of the situation and turn most of these hostels to hotels so as to generate revenue for government.    The non-functional hostel is thing of worry , according to the sports Minister; “we are expecting to clear these illegal structures and turn the hostels to hotels.” he concluded Earlier during this tour, the minister visited two Olympic bound Athletes Lawal Rufiyat Folashade and Liadi Taiwo at the Liberty

Ijebu Half Marathon Get New Name & Date

Nigeria’s foremost marathons and road races running company, Nilayo Sports Management Limited, has set July 17, 2021 as the new date for the maiden Ijebu Heritage Half Marathon after a meeting in Ijebu Ode on Friday.  Bukola Olopade, the Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports disclosed on Friday after a meeting with The Heritage Group in Ijebu Ode that the Ijebu Marathon will be called Ijebu Heritage Half Marathon.  Speaking after the meeting, Olopade shower encomiums on The Heritage Group.
