Aba South Defeats Ukwa East To Set Up A Southern Battle In The Capital At The Finals Of The Abia Governor’s Cup.

Chimaobi Nnaji's 95th minute stunning freekick was enough for Aba South to book a spot in a what promises to be an epic final

Aba South came into this game with pedigree while Ukwa East came with the tournament's top scorer. 

Aba South scored the fastest goal of the tournament in the first minute when Chukwunyere Chibuike rose highest to nod past Joshua Nwanosike after a mixup in the box. Aba South took control of the game thereafter and had another chance in the 6th minute but Okorie Samuel's shot narrowly missed the target

Chukwunyere Chibuike came close to getting a second goal in the 12th minute when he was missed a one-on-one chance. 

Ukwa East got back into the game in the 22nd minute when Ifeanyi Friday found space just at the edge of the Aba South box and let a ferocious shot fly past Promise Ifeanyi. 

Aba South continue from where they stopped  missing chances when Samuel Okorie's shot from a close range came off the woodwork in the 40th minute to climax a first half of sheer dominance and missed chances by Aba South

The introduction of Chidiebere Diamond added spark to the Aba South attack and he came close to getting another goal for Aba South in the 48th minute but he failed to beat Joshua Nwanosike

Ukwa East later woke from sleep and pressed for an equalizer through long balls but met a resolute Aba South defense

Chidiebere Diamond got Aba South ahead in the 72nd minute when he headed Chimaobi Nnaji's corner kick past Nwanosike. 

Aba South's euphoric lead was cut short in the 88th minute when Christian Chimezie converted from the spot. 

The match went to extra time. Aba South's winner came in the 95th minute when Chimaobi Nnaji scored a sumptuous freekick past Nwanosike. They continued to press for more goals until the end of the game. Aba South created 17 chances in the game and only scored 3. 

The final game of the tournament will be between Umuahia South and Aba South while the third place game will be between Umuahia North and Ukwa East. The final will be played on Friday, 29th January 2021
