COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF MEETING OF ABIA STATE CHAPTER OF THE SPORTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA, (SWAN).
The monthly congress of the Abia State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN) has been held in Umuahia with some far reaching resolutions.
1. The meeting applauded the appointment of Mr Christian Ejinwa as the state Acting Director of Sports by the Okezie Ikpeazu led government and urged him to work hard in order to improve the standard of sports in the state. While commending the state government for its sound sporting policy which has led to many developmental strides, SWAN further reiterated the need for government to provide necessary tools to the new Sports Director to enable him discover budding sportsmen and women who would do the state and the nation proud.
2. The House implored the leadership to ensure that the chapter is properly aligned with the National body for greater growth particularly in the area of registration as non registered members and others who are not up to date financially, will be constitutionally barred from participating in the chapter's affairs.
Members were, therefore, advised to update their status with the Association immediately.
3. The House inaugurated a SWAN Week committee headed by Comrade Hyacinth Ezindu of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia (BCA),
Frank Okoye of Rhema FM, Aba as Vice Chairman, while David Oku of Flo FM, Umuahia will serve as the Secretary.
4. The State Chapter Chairman Prince Vincent Obike,further inaugurated the "SWAN ELECTION COMMITTEE" (SWANECO), with the former National Deputy President of the Association, Comrade Sunday Anyim Ogele as the Chairman. Other members are Igwe Onuoha and Patrick Ngwaogu. The Chairman, Prince Vincent Obike implored the committee to discharge its duties deligently and without fear or favour.
5. Abia SWAN members also commended the speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji for the Mini Stadia projects he is building in some parts of the state, as this will further complement the efforts of the state government in the development of sports in Abia State.
