French Cup halted

The French Football Federation (FFF) has also halted all amateur football.

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a second national lockdown until at least the end of November.

The top three tiers of men's football - Ligue 1, Ligue 2 and the National - and the women's top flight can continue, as can international football matches.

Sports minister Roxana Maracineanu has said elite sport can continue behind closed doors.

"The FFF decided to suspend all leagues, districts and national championships competitions National 3, National 2, Women's D2, the French Cup for men and women, and national youth championships (male and female) until Tuesday, 1 December,"

All matches that cannot be played during this period will be postponed to later dates, depending on the evolution of the health situation."

From Friday, people in France will only be allowed to leave home for essential work or medical reasons.

Covid daily deaths in France are at the highest level since April. On Wednesday, 36,437 new cases and 244 deaths were confirmed.

Speaking in the French parliament, Maracineanu said: "The coming weeks will be tough economically but also humanely. This is why I wanted to confirm to you that the continuity of the sport which is practised as a profession is today assured.

"High-level athletes will be allowed to train. And then we will be allowed to compete because travelling for professional reasons is allowed."

France are due to play Ireland in the Six Nations in Paris on Saturday, while the Paris Masters tennis tournament is also due to begin on Monday, with both events set to be played behind closed doors.

Sports Journalists In Aba Honor Finidi George in Post-Afcon Reception.

Members of the Aba Sports Journalists Forum(ASJ)  came out in their numbers to a dinner, to welcome and honour Ex-international and  Super Eagles assistant coach, Finidi George after the exploits of the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoir. The dinner which was hosted by Finidi George, who is also Enyimba's coach had journalists from different media outlets asking Finidi questions about his AFCON experiences, the Super Eagles, Enyimba and his time as a player and other questions on his experience as coach of the current NPFL Champions.  It was a moment to relax, learn and hear from the legend who has won the AFCON Gold, Silver and Bronze medal as player and coach.  The former Ajax winger would be in charge of his first game at Enyimba since returning from the AFCON when Enyimba host Gombe United on Thursday afternoon.

Lagos State FA Chairman Congratulates Manu Garba On His Appointment As Golden Eaglets Coach

  Lagos State Football Association Chairman, Hajji Liameed Olawale Gafar, has congratulated Manu Garba, on his appointment as the new head coach of the Nigeria U17 national football team, the Golden Eaglets.  Manu Garba's first tenure as Eaglets Manager saw him handling footballers such as Taiwo Awoniyi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac  Success, Francis Uzoho, Chidiebere Nwakali and Musa Muhammed to victory at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup.   According to Hajji Gafar, he believes that this experience makes Manu Garba the ideal candidate to lead the Golden Eaglets to new heights. The coach who returns for his third stint with the team has been saddled with the responsibility of leading the current crop of players to next month's WAFU B U17 Championship which serves as qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.
